These students were reading about endangered animals during their guided reading group. This sparked a lot of conversation about why the different animals in the book were in danger.  We began looking online to find more answers.  From there, the groups chose one animal, the Komodo Dragon, that they wanted to focus on and learn more about.

First grade enjoyed watching chick eggs as they were in the incubator developing.  They monitored them and looked for changes.  As they began hatching, the students were amazed.  Here is a video of one chick hatching.

Skins Come To Willbern

First graders at Willbern were learning about animal habitats and animal body coverings during the second six weeks of Science.  All first grade classes attended an “Animal Coverings” presentation put on by two first grade parents, Mrs. VanFleet and Mr. Dubaniewicz.  The students were so excited because the presentation allowed them to have hands on experience and touch different types of body coverings.
