*Children at early stages use their own invented spellings and receive valuable practice in translating from sound to print. This practice and experience with letters and sounds form an excellent basis for reading. In addition, the activity develops self-reliance in dealing with print, and contributes to a do-it-yourself attitude which carries over into learning to read |
Thanksgiving ProjectThe students created a story map telling the story of the First Thanksgiving. Each student worked in small groups or with a partner to illustrate the story. Then we placed the pictures on a large story board. Some of the students typed out captions on the computer. The last step of our project was to give each student a turn to narrate what was happening in the pictures. The students were very proud of their projects, and we celebrated the finished project by enjoying a Friendship Feast similar to that of the very First Thanksgiving feast! |
