Third Grade

Students worked together to create simple machines using Lego’s.  Over the course of several days, students were given diagrams for six different simple machines that they built.  Once they built the machine, they investigated the uses and advantages of each.

Can you do better than the real Jamestown colonists? Third grade students answered that exact question by going on The Jamestown Online Adventure on the History Globe website.  Students made decisions for their colony about food, health, wealth, and morale.  At the end of their adventure students got to compare their colony to the historical Jamestown to find out if they did better than the real colonists.

Mrs. Horne’s third grade students wrote personal narratives.  They began by looking at good examples of personal narratives and then followed the writing process of gathering ideas, narrowing down a topic, and drafting.  Students gathered feedback from peers along the way to better address what their audience wanted to hear about in their story.  After traditional editing, students began publishing their stories using Word.
