It is against district policy for your child to ride the bus home with a friend.
Car Rider Procedures
The procedures we have in place help us to get the children in school quickly and safely in the morning and help us to get the children safely and expeditiously into the correct vehicle in the afternoon. In the morning, all children should be ready to exit the car when the car pulls up to the curb. We have had some children still being fed breakfast, hugged and kissed, handed lunch money or notes as the car comes to the curb. While all of these things help the children have a great school day, when they occur after the car stops at the curb, you can imagine how much extra time is spent getting the children out to begin their school day. I have assigned school personnel at the car rider line to help the children get out of the car and to class. Please follow the hand signals of our school personnel as they direct you to move forward before stopping your car. When all of the cars have come to a stop, the children are free to exit the cars. All children entering the front doors are to be dropped off in the car rider line. All children exiting the front doors are to be picked up in the cars in the car rider line. No child exiting the front doors is to be released to an adult on foot. Parents on foot should send a note requesting that your child be a "hiker/biker" and your child can then exit the building from the side doors. You then can pick them up from the side doors. When we all follow the procedures, we are better able to ensure the safety of the children.
Transportation Changes
If you need to get your child out of school at a time different from their regular dismissal time, we need you to send a note to your child's teacher on the morning of the change. When you send a note, we are then able to have your child waiting for you in the front foyer. We do not always have available personnel to retrieve children when a request is made at the time a parent walks in the door. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to get a child when any request comes after 2:30 p.m.
