Amazing Art Club
Sponsor:  Nellie Claybourn

To express creativity in multiple mediums of art such as painting and drawing, cartoons, history of artists, photography.
Open to all students. $8 fee to join.  Meet Mondays in Room 2610.

 

Anime/Manga Club
Sponsor: Alisa McElroy

Learn what makes life in the US different from Eastern Asia through the media.  Examples, T.V., music special events like festivals and animated movies.  Club meets in PB3 on Thursdays from 2:45 to 4.

 

Astronomy Club
Sponsor:  David Herlinger

To introduce students to the science of astronomy and to investigate the wonders of the night sky.


Bailadoras
Sponsor: Jennifer Whitehead

This is Langham Creek’s Dance/Drill team.  The students dance at athletic events, attend competitions throughout the year and perform a spring dance production.  Students are able to join once a year at a competitive tryout.

 

Band
Sponsor: Scott McAdow

Students must have previous musical experience, by audition only.
The band curriculum consists of contemporary free-form style marching, development of soloistic skills, chamber music participation, concert contests, and performance in some of the finest auditoriums in the United States.

 

Baseball
Head Coach:  Armando Sedeno

Must try out for the team, have an athletic physical on file, maintains passing grades throughout the year and possess a positive attitude at Langham Creek.

 

Basketball
Head Coach: Charles Ament (B); Annette Steward (G)

Must tryout for the team (November), have an athletic physical on file and maintain passing grades throughout the year.

 

Biology Club
Sponsor:  Bobbie McAndrews

Students must have an interest in biology and a willingness to learn about biology in everyday life.  Be expected to participate in fundraisers and/or volunteer work.

 

Bite out of Life
Sponsor:  Shannon Wight

Experience the world through culture and food.  Meet every other Tuesday in Room 2502.  Open to anyone interested in different foods and cultures.

 

Bowling Club
Sponsor:  Fred Young

Students must have basic bowling skills and must  maintain passing grades each six weeks.  Tryouts for the team are in October.  Students participate in various tournaments throughout the year.

 

Cheerleading
Sponsors:  Kristen Schulze (Varsity) and Lindsey Fuller (JV)

Students must have a 2.5 GPA, no I’s or U’s in conduct, no suspensions, athletic physical on file.  Tryouts are every year and students are judged on academic success and athletic and gymnastic ability.  LCHS cheerleaders support interscholastic athletics by encouraging and directing crowd participation.  Cheerleaders must be more than good athletes and performers.  They must be leaders, role models and ambassadors for the school and community.

 

Choir
Sponsors:  Cathy Wafford and Christopher Fiorini

Students must have basic musical skills or be willing to learn necessary skills.  Choir is an organization that represents LCHS through performances at school or for community organizations.  Members prepare music by applying basic theory and sight-reading skills as choral and vocal techniques are improved.  Choir is a class and must be put into the student’s schedule.

 

Color Guard
Sponsor:  Gloria Ramirez

Students must audition and attend an after-school camp in the spring.  Students must be enrolled in the Color Guard class.  Color Guard performs at LCHS football games and marching band competitions with the Lobo Band.  In the spring, Color Guard competes at the Winterguard competition.  This is an award-winning organization.

 

Comedy Sports Club
Sponsor: Lance Higdon

Tryouts are open to everyone.
So you think you are funny, huh?  Well, come down and prove it!!  If you think you’ve got what it takes to become a member of the “Raised by Wolves” ComedySportz team then make sure to try out.  Try outs are in August each year.  The Audition/Try out date is announced over LCTV and via flyers.

 

Computer Science Club
Sponsor: Fran Rettenmeier

This club is for students who wish to learn more about computer science, prepare for college computer science and participate in computer science competitions.

 

Cross Country
Head Coach:  Scott Tucker (B)  and Ellen Robinson (G)

Students must qualify for the team through try outs in early August.  Must run during the summer months and be prepared.  Dedication and commitment is essential.  Must have athletic physical on file before school starts.

 

Diamond Dolls
Sponsor:  Leah Stephanow

Junior and Senior ladies only are allowed to apply.  Only 20 applicants will be selected each year.  The Diamond Dolls is a service and support group for Lobo Baseball.  In addition to assisting with any fundraising activities and community service, the Diamond Dolls are in a public relations roll and act as hostesses at home varsity baseball games.

 

Ensemble

Club for students in theatre. Each student will maintain passing grades and participate in crew and acting assignments for public theatrical performances.  Dues of $7 per year.

 

Family Career and Community Leaders America, Inc. (FCCLA)
Sponsor:  Linda Funk

A club for students enrolled in the early childhood education programs.  Meetings are monthly.

 

Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Sponsor:  Brent Klepper

Open to any student.  This organization provides fellowship and encouragement to those interested in Christianity while serving the school and community.

 

FFA (Agriculture)
Sponsor:  Debra Hargrave

Enrollment in Agriculture Science class or an interest in agricultural science.  Teaches leadership, participation in competitions and responsibility and parliamentary procedure.  Participate in public speaking, record keeping, livestock, and equine judging, and wildlife contests.  Also participate in livestock shows, talent contests and community service projects.

 

Foreign Film Club
Sponsor:  Jeff Notton

Provide students with the opportunity to explore the language of international film and analyze the importance of these films.

 

Football
Athletic Coordinator:  Mac Woodfin

Football is open to all 9-12 grade boys.  Students must have an athletic physical form on file and have football in their schedule as a class.

 

Gay/Straight Alliance
Sponsors:  Lauren Loiodice and CJ Brock

To provide students with a place to meet and talk about issues relating to diversity, tolerance, sexual orientation, harassment, discrimination and bias.    This club is open to any Junior or Senior student with a parental permission form.  The club meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month in the theater green room.

 

German Club
Sponsor:  Sherry Ruppelt

Interest in speaking German and learning about the German culture.  The purpose of the club is to practice speaking German and learn about the German culture,  history, and current events.

 

Golf
Head Coaches:  Rob Walker (B)  Roslin Copeland (G)

Must try out and make the Golf team.  Must have athletic physical form on file.  Participate in district tournaments and UIL competition.

 

Good Sportsmanship League (GSL)
Sponsor:  Kristi Giron

Students (preferably Seniors) represent LC before various sporting events as a gesture of good will towards the opposing team.   Students are asked by teachers or coaches to participate.

 

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
Sponsor: Robin Richard

Students must have an interest in the medical field.  Current enrollment in or completion of HSTE I.  This organization promotes awareness of medical careers and breakthroughs in the field of medicine.  Students participate in various competitions and perform community service.

 

HOLA Dance Club (Hispanic Organization for Leaders of America)
Sponsor:  Herlinda Marquez Gonzales

This club provides leadership skills and demonstrates unity through cultural dancing.  Students must possess a willingness to work hard and a positive attitude is a must. All classes must be passed with a 70 or above. 

 

Interact Club
Sponsor: Sue Olson

This club provides community service.

 

International Thespian Society (ITS)
Sponsors:  Cheryl Bradford and C.J. Brock

Students must have 10 thespian points, have been in two or more plays in high school, have an overall GPA of “C” or higher, a good discipline record and director’s recommendation.  Dues are $20.

 

Investment Club
Sponsor:  Terri Huckaby

Open to all students.  To teach students how to invest in the stock market and to compete against other schools to test their strategies.  Each student will invest $100,000 in the stock market using different strategies and try to maximize gains and minimize losses.  Students must maintain active participation, must meet UIL requirements for eligibility.

 

Junior Achievement Club
Sponsor:  Randall Middlebrook

Open to evryone.  JA is to educate and inspire students to free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives.  Students involved in JA run their own business from capitalization to liquidation.

 

Junior Statesman of America
Sponsor:  Art Moore

Attend all meetings (3 exemptions) Dues are $7.  Members learn about and practice the functioning of our political system.  This organization also provides school and community service activities.  Club meets on Thursdays.  Listen to announcements for specific room and time.

 

JROTC
Sponsors:  Major Bullock and Captain Sears

A classroom and leadership laboratory that helps develop decision making and communication skills while building self-confidence as a leader.  Students must be enrolled in ROTC class during the day.

 

Kitty Hawk Air Society
Sponsor:  Sgt. Bullock and Captain Sears

The official Air Force JROTC honor society.  Students must be a member of JROTC.

 

Latin Club
Sponsor: Lance Higdon

Currently or previously enrolled in Latin class.  This class promotes Latin culture and the members can become involved in various competitions.

 

Le’Esprit de Paris (French Club) 
Sponsor:  Yannick Stam

Requirements:  An interest in French culture ($5.00 dues)
Our monthly activities promote French culture and traditions, and our organization provides opportunities for personal growth in the French language, service to the community and lots of fun.  Activities include Bienvenue dinner in Sept., opera or ballet in Oct., cheese tasting in Nov., Christmas Party in Dec., Epiphany party in Jan., Mardi Gras in Feb., picnic or visit to the museum in Mar, Induction Ceremony for the French National Honor Society in April, banquet at a french restaurant in May. The club also visits its adopted nursing home from time to time and participates in the Galveston Beach clean up in Sept./or April.

 

League of Extraordinary Men

Requirements:  Senior men of integrity willing to serve as mentors and role models for Langham students in need of a big brother.  A minimum of ten (10) service hours required.  Dues $5.00.

 

Literature and Arts Club
Sponsor:  Sam Raasch

Requirements:  Submit a minimum of two pieces of work (poetry, prose,photography, original art) and attend 75% or more of all club meetings.  Students are encouraged to bring original stories, poetry, sagas and art to share.  We plan on having a coffee house presentation of original writings, and we publish the literary magazine of student writings.

 

Math Club
Sponsor:  Elizabeth Stoerkle

The primary activities are to prepare students for mathematical competitions and explore the world of mathematics.  Requirements are that students be in grades 9-12 and be taking a math course or have completed at least 2 semesters of a math course.  Meet Tuesday or Thursday in Room 1809.

 

Model United Nations
Sponsor:  John Reed

Model U.N. is designed to allow students to role play as members of the United Nations.  The students represent a country, spend time researching positions the country would take in current issues and participate in the Houston Area Model United Nations Conference in April. 

 

Mu Alpha Theta
Sponsor:  Elizabeth Stoerkle

This is the Math Honor Society.  If you have taken at least two years of math courses with at least a 3.0 out of 4.0 you are welcome to join.

 

Muslim Club
Sponsor:  John Reed

Club open to all to raise Islamic Awareness in the school and community.  Meet in PB1 on Thursday.

 

National Forensic League
Sponsor:  Martha Pierson

For speech and debate students.

 

National Honor Society
Sponsors:  Mike Hutchins, Newlyn Coffey

Requirements:  Juniors and Seniors with a G.P.A. of 5.8 or higher.  Must make application showing leadership and service activities and have a teacher recommendation.  N.H.S. is an organization that not only recognizes and honors the academic leaders of the school, but also encourages these school leaders to use their skills for school-wide and community services.

 

Newspaper

Previous publication experience or enrollment in Journalism/desktop.  All staffers must apply.

 

Ocean Bowl Club
Sponsors:  Tim Kraemer and Amanda Sebesta

Tutoring and practice for the National Ocean Science Bowl.  Must have an interest in Aquatic Science to try out for the team.  Practice in Room 1312 on announced days.

 

Orchestra
Sponsor:  David Hunter 

Requirements: Students must be able to play violin, viola, cello, bass or harp.
Students will perform on and off the Langham Creek campus.  They will compete as individuals and as a group representing Langham Creek at various contests.  A weekly rehearsal on Monday night (6 to 8 pm) is required. 

 

Peer Assistance and Leadership (P.A.L.S.)
Sponsor: Pam Spivey

Requirements: Junior or Senior, application process
P.A.L.S. students serve as positive role models for students on the Langham Creek campus as well as at several elementary schools in our area.  P.A.L.S. also participate in community service activities. 

 

S.A.V.E. (Saving Animals through Volunteer Efforts)

Requirements:  Open to anyone who likes animals.  S.A.V.E. helps animal shelters and non-profit organizations through volunteer efforts. 

 

Senior Women

Requirements:  Senior women only, must pay membership dues.
This organization sponsors and promotes service and social activities that benefit the senior class, its own membership and the school community.

 

Soccer Boys

Requirements:  Qualify at tryouts, complete 5 credits per year, have athletic physical on file. Participate in games, tournaments and UIL competition. 

 

Soccer Girls

Requirements:  Qualify at tryouts, complete 5 credits per year, have athletic physical on file. Participate in games, tournaments and UIL competition. 

 

Softball

Requirements:  Girls wishing to try out for softball must have some previous experience and should be enrolled in the class for the fall semester.  Qualify at tryouts in January, approval of the coach, and athletic physical on file.  Participate in games, tournaments and UIL competition.

 

Solid Rock Christian Club

Requirements:  Attend weekly meetings.
The function of Solid Rock is to provide a place where Christian students at Langham Creek can meet together and encourage one another in their walk with Jesus Christ.

 

Spanish National Honor Society
Sponsors:  Georgina Bui, Sylvia Crum, Joan Sabol

Requirements:  A regularly enrolled high school student who has maintained an “A” grade in Spanish for a minimum of three semesters.

 

Spanish Club

Requirements:  To provide opportunities for Langham Spanish students to meet for cultural and social events in order to enhance their understanding of the Hispanic world.

 

S.P.A.R.K.S. (Special People Assisting Remarkable Kids)
Sponsor:  Terri Johnson

Requirements:  Complete a required number of volunteer hours per semester by participating in activities with students who have disabilities.  Activities include Special Olympics, ARC, MHMRA, SIRE, etc.  S.P.A.R.K.S. helps Special Olympic athletes at practices and events including walk-a-thon/bike-a-thon, basketball tournaments and awards banquet.

 

Speech and Debate
Sponsor:  Martha Pierson

Requirements:  Passing grades.  Debate students must attend a minimum of one tournament per semester.  Speech and Debate develops an individual’s communication skills while nurturing and developing team camaraderie.  Speech and Debate students earn points for membership in the National Forensic League.

 

STACKS Club
Sponsor:  Pam Gockel

Teach students how to stitch, tailor, crochet, knit and sew.  Open to anyone.  Meets in Room 2310 on Mondays. 

 

Student Council
Sponsor:  Trish Lopes

Requirements:  Elected representatives attend meetings, maintain passing grades, and participate in activities
Student Council is the liaison between the students and the administration in an effort to promote a better school climate.  Student Council attempts to inform the student body about problems facing our school, and possible solutions to help students cope with their environment.  Student council is also a “sounding board” for the students; a place where students can go for any concerns they might have.

 

Swim Team
Head Coach:  Scott Carroll

Requirements:  Student must be able to demonstrate a certain level of ability in all four competitive strokes; must have athletic physical on file.  Students must be enrolled in swimming class.

 

Technology Student Association
Sponsors:  Tommy Montgomery, David Reynolds

Requirements:  Must be enrolled in Industrial Technology class and pay regional and state membership dues.  The purpose of the club is to promote leadership and to provide competition opportunities for the students.

 

Teenage Republican Society
Sponsor:  Elaine Schwartz

Requirements:  To promote an informed public through political education and activity, to increase the effectiveness of teenagers in the cause of good government through active political participation.

 

Tennis
Head Coach: Teri Moran

Requirements: Qualify for the team, approval of coach, athletic physical on file.  Participate in tournaments, games and UIL district competition.

 

Texas Association of Future Leaders (TAFE)
Sponsor:  Rachel Ramirez

Promote educator as a future career choice, to study the lives and influence of great teachers, to learn how and where teachers receive their training, the cost, scholarships available, numbers of years required, certification and standards.   Members need to have a desire to become a teacher and must be passing all classes with appropriate conduct.

 

Track and Field (Boys)

Requirements: Willing to work hard.  Have a good attitude, interest in the sport of track, desire to develop work ethic in sport.  Athletic physical on file.  Langham has three track teams: 9th, JV and Varsity

 

V.I.C.A. – Automotive Vocational Industrial Clubs of America

Requirements: Current or past enrollment in an automotive technology class.  This organization provides leadership opportunities and also sponsors community service projects.

 

V.I.C.A. – Cosmetology Vocational Industrial Clubs of America – Meet 1x a month on Wednesday 2:30-3:30
Sponsor:  Michael Tucker

Requirements: Enrollment in Cosmetology class.  Students of cosmetology can enhance leadership skills by participating in V.I.C.A.  This organization also promotes career development and sponsors fund-raising and service projects.

 

Volleyball
Head Coach:  Roslin Copeland

Requirements: Qualify for the team, have athletic physical on file. Tryouts begin in early August.  We also stress commitment, dedication and a positive attitude.

 

Yearbook Club
Sponsor:  Pat Schrader

Interest in helping with the yearbook.  A certain amount of hours are required to get a t-shirt.  Students help with photography, making posters, some sales and layouts. Meets every other Monday.

 

Young Ladies for Positive Action (YLPA)
Sponsor:  Shemesha Thomas

Requirements:  Must have positive attitude and want to learn stepping.  Must maintain appropriate discipline and GPA.
YLPA is a group dedicated to demonstrate unity among young ladies through stepping.

 

Zero Gravity Urban Dance Club
Sponsor:  Lance Higdon

To provide LCHS students with an opportunity for an outlet and for the exploration and exhibition of urban dance.  Students must have signed permission slip and payment of dues by 3rd meeting.  Adherence to rules as laid out in the constitution.  Meets in Room 2201 West Hallway.
