We've Been Adopted!
School district partners Community Impact Newspaper – Cy-Fair and The Backyard Grill entered into a joint Adopt-a-School Partnership with Jersey Village High School through Partners in Education (PIE) on Nov. 6. The Adopt-a-School program allows schools to work together with community organizations and business partners to utilize the resources of the community to strengthen and enrich the quality of education for students.
Jersey Village principal Ralph Funk said he looks forward to the first official “adoption” for the school. “This is a very exciting opportunity for Jersey Village High School to have a community of people come in and help the schools in ways that we cannot,” Funk said.
Kelli Ray, general manager of Community Impact – Cy-Fair, said that the dual partnership with The Backyard Grill will serve as an advantage for the school. “Through this partnership, we can utilize both circles of clients and serve Jersey Village as liaisons for an entire community of people, rather than the burden being solely on one company,” Ray said. Mark McShaffry, owner of The Backyard Grill, met with Ray on Tuesday morning to begin exploring wish list opportunities for Jersey Village.
“Although we have been a partner with Jersey Village for 12 years, it is wonderful to now be an official adopter and do more for the school,” McShaffry said. “Before we would sit back and wait until we were asked for things here and there, but to actually be able to attack a list and see things brought to completion is exciting.”
Pam Scott, director for PIE, said she was excited to circle Jersey Village on a copy of the district map that indicates the adopted schools throughout CFISD. “I’m confident this will be a great adoption, and I am looking forward to that continued relationship,” Scott said. “It was an incredible feeling to be able to check one more school off the list and circle them off the district map.”
