GREAT NEWS from JVHS
All too often we hear in neighborhood discussions or read in the news the negative aspects of our schools. While we do have some problems and areas upon which to improve, I would like to share some very positive news about Jersey Village High School.
Perfect SAT Score
Cybil Zhang, a junior at Jersey Village High School, scored a perfect 2400 on the October 2008 SAT. JVHS has had other perfect scores on the older version of this college entrance test, but Cybil is the first to achieve a perfect score on the new SAT. Ms. Zhang's scores are Critical Reading-800, Math-800, Writing-800. Outstanding Cybil!
National Merit Scholars
The National Merit competition is based on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) students take in their junior year of high school. We at Jersey Village High School and Cy Fair ISD often take for granted the number of students who qualify for this honor and are very disappointed because we do not have more. I want you to know that many schools in Texas and the United States never have a National Merit Scholar, and the vast majority have only a few in the history of their schools.
Jersey Village High School averages approximately 15-20 National Merit Scholars every year. Students are classified as National Merit Commended Scholars, National Merit Semi-Finalists, and National Merit Finalists. For 2009, we proudly announce that we have 17 National Merit Scholars. Twelve students are Commended Scholars and five students have been announced as Semi-Finalists. These five students are still in competition for Finalists, and we anticipate all will be announced as Finalists in the near future.
JVHS Commended Students include:
Kurt Bilanoski Alexander Bruce
Kelly Harrison Amanda Hogan Raj Kankaria Tao Li
Emma Metcalf Kevin Nguyen Nicholas Prather Alyssa San Pedro
Kimberly Tang Holly Wu
JVHS Semi-Finalists (soon to be Finalists we hope)
Garrett Hallmark Andrew Mahood
Julie Nguyen Ian Paige
Peter Turner
