What is HAS?

An interactive, online learning experience where students complete Web-based lessons during the school year and travel to NASA for a six-day summer experience where they work NASA engineers and scientists developing a mission to Mars.

Who is Eligible?


Texas high school juniors

Who pays for HAS?

There is no cost for participation and all expenses are included. The State of Texas, along with community organizations, partner with JSC to support HAS.

Student Benefits

Can teachers participate?


Absolutely!  Certified Texas teachers serve as HAS counselors during the summer and are an integral part of the program. Selected teachers receive a stipend and guide the students learning experience.Teacher applications will be available on the website in the spring.

Scholars' Day Events

The University of Texas at Dallas sponsors our Scholars' Day for high school juniors, seniors and transfer students. Join us on Scholars' Day, our open house, to learn about the dynamic frontiers we are exploring at UT Dallas -- and how you can be an exciting part of that future. There will be special events, demonstrations of the latest trends in our leading-edge programs, and entertainment.

Some of our scheduled events will include:

  1. presentations about innovative academic programs,
  2. mock class lectures,
  3. career services
  4. academic student fairs.
  5. You can also learn more about freshman and transfer admissions,
  6. student life,
  7. financial aid
  8. scholarships
  9. our unique apartment-style campus housing.

Also, there will be plenty of opportunity throughout the day to spend personal time with current students as well as UT Dallas faculty and staff.

Graduate from JV with College Credit !!

Dual Credit Registration

Registration for Spring 2010 Dual Credit Courses will begin October 26th--December 4th.  All registration packets can be picked up in Room #2330 from Ms. Landry.


FREE SAT & ACT Testing

Sylvan Learning Centers offers FREE SAT/ACT test administrations for any interested students once a month at their Barker-Cypress location. After the test, Sylvan personnel meet with each student/family at their convenience to report scores and give free information about university and college entrance requirements and how each student’s score relates to “getting in” to the college of his/her choice. The student is in no way obligated to sign up for any tutorial sessions.

Sessions held Monday – Friday
Tour: 11:00am – 11:35am
Advising Session: 11:45 – 12:30pm

Student Support Specialists will be in the One Stop Center also known as the Admissions/Registration office throughout each week. Students are encouraged to arrive before 11am in order to take the tour and make it to the advising session.  College day cards/forms will be signed only if you arrive promptly for the Tour and remain for the entire Advising session.
