First Six Weeks

We started the year off running.  In the first six weeks second graders have been busy!  In reading we launched our reader’s workshop by organizing our classroom libraries, learning how to choose just right books, and thinking and talking about our reading.

In language arts we explored ideas in a writing notebook.  We wrote all of our ideas in the notebook to use when we started the writing process.  We also talked about the trait of ideas.

In math we learned about bar and picture graphs.

In science we explored the scientific process, safety rules, and living and non-living.

In social studies we learned about the city, state, and country leaders.

Second Six Weeks

In the second six weeks we were just as busy as the first.  In reading we are writing reader’s response letters, analyzing characters, and making mental images.

In language arts we are writing personal narratives and talking about the trait of organization.

In math, this six weeks, we are adding and subtracting 2 digits with trading.  We are also learning how to tell time.

In science we are learning about the six different groups of animals, the human body, and the food pyramid.

Finally in social studies we are learning how to use the map keys, calendar skills, and needs and wants.
