Students discovered how to run a city, how to pay bills, earn a pay check, and of course enjoy the goodies at the food court.

Fifth grade students wrote editorials to the Biztown Newspaper. Here are some examples.

It’s Just Not Enough
By: Kemah S.

Recess at Hairgrove Elementary is “Just Not Enough” time for students to get active. We students at Hairgrove Elementary should have 25 minutes or more to get enough steps to loose some pounds. If we have 25 minutes or more we would be a lot healthier.
A lot of things changed from last year. And some of these changes are affecting our recess. It’s too much, way too much! We students at Hairgrove Elementary only have 15 minutes to get active. Ain’t that a bummer! Kids around the world would be healthier if there was just a little bit more time for recess. I know recess isn’t mandatory, but to me and other kids it should be. Kids around the world are dying because they’re not active. I know I want to be healthy, and I am. I just want other kids and adults to be healthy too.

Recycling and What We Can Do To Help It
Natural resources are being destroyed so why aren’t we turning off the light?
By: Anna B.

Rainforest after rainforest is being destroyed for buildings to be created. We don’t know it, but we’re destroying more than the forests. We are destroying our oxygen and creating more carbon dioxide for us to breathe in, which is causing a lot of stress from the people with asthma at the doctors and at home. The U.S. is one of the most polluted countries because of all our huge factories. Local parks are outraged because companies are illegally building on their land and creating factories and other polluting machines. So if we’re doing all this, why aren’t many people recycling? Why aren’t we using that blue bucket? Studies have shown that out of 10 people, only 3 will recycle their paper, plastics, and metals. Well, I think mother Earth is fed up with our disasters of keeping her clean because I’m sure the scientists aren’t. It’s time she comes and helps us because apparently we can’t control our overall pollution. So go ahead and buy that energy efficient bulb. Turn off that light and start the use of bio fuel. If we don’t end the destruction, we could become a deduction from the Earth. So remember, don’t put that paper in the trash.  Instead, put it in the recycling bin and save our planet from becoming lifeless, unless of course… you’d rather suffocate from lack of oxygen. If you think you’d rather live, then go the extra mile to recycle.
