Anime (OKTAKU)

This Club is for fans of Japanese anime to come hang out, watch movies, and share favorite animes.  Group activities, such as attending anime conventions, also take place outside of school hours on students’ own time.

Comedy Sportz-Houston

A professional improvisational troupe which consists of two teams of improvisers combining sportsmanship and artistic expression in a friendly battle for audience laughs.  Created in 1995 and modeled after the professional matches, the Comedy Sportz High School League trains “actletes” to perform Comedy Sportz improvisation utilizing the students creativity and spontaneity.  From scheduled practices and public performances, students learn social, artistic, and communication skills, greater confidence, the ability to think on one’s feet, adapt to the unexpected, and overcome obstacles.

Debate Team competes at tournaments for UIL, TFA, and NFL, which are forensic associations statewide and nationally recognized.  They prepare cases for debate rounds through extensive research and prepare pieces for individual speech events to perform.

National Honor Society

 

The Cypress Woods National Honor Society recognizes successful student leaders in the school and community.  Juniors or Seniors who maintain a 5.8 grade point average and demonstrate exemplary leadership skills and character both in and out of school are eligible to apply.  Demonstrated community service hours are also required and NHS group focuses on community service throughout the year.

The Peer Assistance and Leadership Program (PAL) is a peer helping program in which selected high school students in their junior or senior years are trained to work as peer helpers with students on their own campuses, or at feeder middle and elementary schools.  The program is approved by the Texas Education Agency as an elective course for credit toward graduation.

Spanish National Honor Society

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispŕnica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish.  The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in Spanish and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic studies.  Character, leadership, seriousness of purpose, cooperation, honesty, service and commitment to others is also a criteria for selection into the Society.  The student must be enrolled in the study of the language at the time of initiation.  The Society is classified as a national and international academic honor society in the study of high school Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Inc. (AATSP).  Members of this distinguished society complete service hours to show commitment to our community.
