The Speech
and Debate Team members actively participate in tournament
competitions throughout the year in such events as Lincoln
Douglas and Public Forum Debate, poetry, prose, duet
acting, dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation,
extemporaneous speaking, oratory and student congress.
Students compete throughout the Houston area as well
as the state and country. The team is open to any student,
but students who wish to debate must enroll in the full
year of debate or receive prior approval from the coach.
Dues are announced at the beginning of each year.
The Speech
and Debate Club is governed by the National Forensic
League, which is an honor society for speakers. Students
must earn their way into the NFL by garnering points
at competitions. Students are inducted in the Spring.
Membership: A one time NFL registration fee of $10.00
plus the cost of pin.
