Information

World Area Studies is designed to provide eleventh- and twelfth-grade students the opportunity to study the historical, political, and economic developments of selected regions and countries around the world. Current world problems, such as world population explosion, global pollution, nuclear weapons and arms control, world hunger, and AIDS, to name a few, will be introduced at the outset and the regional studies will include an analysis of how the area is impacted by these problems as well as a study of solutions being offered by that region and their relative success. Five major regions of the world will be studied, but the course allows for discretionary study of selected specific countries within each region that are presently embroiled in conflict. Culture and geography, which many times are the root causes of these conflicts, will also be studied. Suggested methods for resolving international problems will be analyzed in the course.
